engage-alumni

In my conversations with School owners, Principals, and Trustees of premiere schools across India, new and old alike, I have had a lot of schools expressing the desire to engage with their alumni.

This desire to engage unfortunately doesn't always transpires into an engaged alumni community, either due to lack of knowing what to do, or more often due to lack of consistent actions.

I want to share a few gems derived from the exposure to best practices I have seen implemented at schools and colleges across India and overseas to help institutes develop their own alumni engagement program.

5 Gems of Alumni engagement:

  1. Create a dedicated alumni program: Establish a program that is specifically designed to keep alumni connected to your organization. This can include events, volunteer opportunities, and networking groups.

  2. Utilize social media: Use social media platforms to connect with alumni and keep them informed about the latest news and events happening within your organization.

  3. Host events: Host events, such as reunions, networking events, and lectures, webinars, that are specifically tailored to your alumni. This will give them an opportunity to reconnect with each other and stay engaged with your organization

  4. Encourage mentorship: Encourage alumni to mentor current students or alumni members. This will not only give alumni a sense of engagement but also provide valuable experience and guidance for current members.

  5. Provide opportunities for volunteerism: Offer opportunities for alumni to give back to the organization through volunteerism or philanthropy. This will not only help the organization but also give alumni a sense of pride and purpose in their continued connection with the organization.

Thoughts here are intended to help you navigate the journey of creating an alumni engagement program. That said, the magic is in consistent action, whatever you get inspired to try from the ideas above or elsewhere, be consistent in your actions and have patience to see remarkable results.
